“How’s pecanmilk!?”

It’s so exciting to see a new business grow. It’s like watching the home team go to the playoffs — nobody knows if your team is going to win. Nobody. Pecanmilk Co-op is glad to be embedded in a community that’s rooting for success.

The following is an update of the cooperative, which was registered as Pecan Milk Cooperative, LLC with the Georgia Secretary of State November 2014 before obtaining a Food Sales Establishment License from the Georgia Department of Agriculture October 2016. That same month, the East Atlanta Village farmer’s market asked Pecanmilk Cooperative to fill a vacancy mid-season.

In February, the co-op launched a grassroots fundraising campaign with a $5,000 goal to be matched by the Fund for Democratic Communities, a Greensboro foundation supporting institutions that foster authentic democracy, including worker cooperatives. The campaign raised over $5,586, not including funds raised by the closing dance party at the offices of the Solutions Not Punishment Collaborative, from over 150 supporters.

Now, you can find fresh pecanmilk from Georgia pecans at metro-Atlanta farmer’s markets: Ponce City Market, East Point, East Atlanta Village, Decatur, Sandy Springs, Smyrna, Brookhaven, Piedmont Park, Marietta, Avondale and Lithonia.

Around the beginning of farmer’s market season, pecanmilk was available at Sevananda health food cooperative in Little Five Points, our first grocery store. We’ve learned SO much from that! And will be able to get back on the shelves of Sevananda after learning so much as well as having some know-how and confidence to approach many more retailers now that we’ve gained that experience.
